As I sit here and reflect on this evenings workout. I can’t help but smile. I’m smiling because we have such an amazing community of people at our gym. In such a short amount of time a community of rock solid people has been built. We all care for one another, inside and outside of the gym. We not only care about how each others training is going. But, we also care about how each other are doing in the real world beyond the roll up doors.
I got to spend 5 minutes of my day today dropping to the floor, pushing myself back up and jumping and clapping over my head with an amazing group of people. Lets face it, nobody likes to do burpees. This 5 minute AMRAP was a surprise to some people at the gym this evening. Once they found out what the workout was for, nobody complained, nobody made a big deal. Everybody got in a circle, looked up at the clock and waited for the 3,2,1… GO.
As we all did burpees together, I was struck by the positive feeling in the room. It was an electric feeling you had to be there to understand. As a team, we did something to help others. We put ourselves through 5 minutes of suck, to help better somebody else’s life. That’s a powerful feeling. A feeling i’m glad I got to experience with that group this evening.
All together, over $600 was raised in support for Autism awareness. The money raised will be donated to a non-profit organization called EASTER SEALS.
We all owe a huge thank you to Kevin and Dawn Lassiter. Without you two, this wouldn’t have been possible. And, I thank you for letting me be a part of this amazing experience. I look forward to many more experiences like this with our amazing community.
