4/8/16 “This isn’t a gym. This is a family.”

“This isn’t a gym. This is a family. I really missed it here.”

This was said in conversation yesterday by a friend of mine who came to drop in to the gym. I didn’t really think twice about what he said until later on that evening. Of course, when he said that to me it instantly stuck in my mind and I couldn’t forget about what he said.

A little back story. When I first came up with the idea of opening the gym there were a couple things I wanted to make sure were going to be a priority. The main thing I wanted to create was a family like atmosphere. I wanted to build the most bad ass community of people around. My vision was to create a place that people not only came to sweat it out, but hung around after the workout to just chill. Shit, they wouldn’t even have to work out if they didn’t want to. They could just come and kick it. To me, if you can create an environment like that. You freaking won. That type of atmosphere is contagious. It attracts people. When I hear of gyms out there that don’t have that type of value, it honestly saddens me.

Alright, now back to what my buddy said. A group of us were sitting down after the class finished the workout and we were just talking about old times. Which was a little over a year ago. Not the longest time in the world, but stay with me. When those words came out of his mouth, I sat there for a second and looked around. The 5PM class was just getting started to knock out there squats. On one side of the gym was a group of ladies chatting, laughing, and high fiving each other after they finished there sets. In the lobby, were a couple people from the 4PM class just kicking it, hanging out while they got their stuff together.

The energy inside of the gym was super chill. Pandora was playing some good music, everybody was in a good mood, spirits were high and people were getting their strength on. In my mind, that was damn near as perfect as it could get. What more could I ask for? ( If Lauren was there it would have made it absolutely perfect. Mushy I know. Can you blame me?) At that moment it was clear to me that we have created something incredibly special. We created something that people miss when they aren’t around. We created a community and culture that people wanted to be a part of. I can’t take all the credit for this, I say ‘we’ because I couldn’t have done all this without you guys. The people here at The Coalition are what make the gym the way it is.

Thank you to everybody that has been a part of this or is currently riding with us. Without all of you this crazy dream I had couldn’t and wouldn’t have become a reality.
