6/18/19 – No TV Challenge

I have a challenge for all of you.  It may be tougher than you think.  Ready to know what it is?  Okay, it’s this.  Don’t watch your TV for the rest of the week.  That’s the challenge.  No watching TV.  At all.  The only exception is if you use your tv to stream apple or amazon music.  

The reasoning behind this challenge is one of learning how to prioritize your time.  The television is a distraction.  Whether you think it is or not.  Even if it’s on in the back ground you’re subconsciously listening and tuned into it.  By challenging yourself to not use the television, you will be eliminating a distraction to your mind. Most importantly, a distraction from your thoughts.  

People will constantly use the lame excuse that they don’t have time for something.  My Favorite is this “I don’t have time to come to the gym.” I could write hundreds of articles about this one sentence.  I won’t resort to any negative comments on this but I know it’s complete bullshit.  If you prioritized making the time to work out.  I can almost guarantee you’d find some time in your day to get it done.  You don’t have to go to a gym.  There are plenty of things you can do at the home.  If you have no idea where to start but beginning to workout is something that’ important to you.  Go seek out the help of a professional. I know a good place. 

What I’m getting at here is there is a lot of hours in your day you probably don’t even realize that you’re missing out on.  You’re being distracted by TV’s, and Smartphones.  Technology doesn’t always have to be a bad thing.  We all know how helpful the technology of today can be to help improve our lives.  That same technology is also hurting us by keeping us distracted from being present in the moment.  When you’re present, you’ll be able to get more done.  Being focused on a specific task will be a lot easier.  Productivity will increase.  Tasks you’ve been meaning to get done will finally get checked off the list. 

Time is precious and I want people to learn to take better advantage of the time that they have. Making changes of old habits will take some time.  You’ll need some discipline to commit to making changes that will set you up for success in the long run.  Nothing worth having comes easy.  We’ve all heard that’s saying before. 

If you accept this challenge.  Do your best to fill your free time getting to things you’ve been needing to get done.  Picking up a book you’ve been meaning to start.  Go meet your friend for that hike you always bail on.  You can see where I’m going with this.  Go do some things that you just “don’t have time for.”
